The public comment period on a proposed third frac sand mine in Winona County has come to an end and the issue will go before the County Planning Commission next month.
               
County Planning and Environmental Services Director Jason Gilman said the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the Nisbit proposal in Saratoga Township on March 21st.

At that time the Commission will make a recommendation to the county board on whether a full environmental impact statement will be needed on the Nisbit proposal.

Gilman said the County Board is expected to take final action on the commission's recommendation at its first meeting in April.

Public hearings on the Dablestein and Yoder sand mine proposals were cancelled for Thursday night after Minnesota Sands announced it will conduct a voluntary environmental impact statement on those two proposals.....
