With legal pressure looming, a deal appears near for Olmsted County to repay 123-thousand dollars owed to the state- funded law library.
The Rochester Post-Buleltin reports County commissioners will meet in closed session on March 23rd to discuss a lawsuit threatened by the law library board to recover the owed money.
The money was diverted from the library fund to the county attorney's office over several years to buy reference materials.
According to the complaint, the actions constitute theft under Minnesota criminal statutes. The lawsuit would seek to recover the full amount, 123-thousand dollars, plus damages in excess of 50-thousand dollars.
The complaint alleges the county attorney's office used funds from the law library's account between 2003 and 2008
to purchase legal materials and services for itself.
