Pedestrian Struck

Winona Police said a 69-year-old Winona man was injured when he was struck by a  pickup truck while closing a Winona street Tuesday evening.
Police Chief Paul Bostrack identified the victim as David Neal Burkhart.

Bostrack said witnesses told police Burkhart was crossing Sixth Street southbound  in the crosswalk at its intersection with Lafayette Street when he was struck by the pickup truck. The truck was driven by 31-year-old Daniel Palmer of Alma, Wisconsin.

Bostrack said Palmer told authorities he did not see Burkhart in time and could not avoid hitting him.

Burkhart was taken to Winona Health to be treated for suspected head injuries.

No criminal charges were initially filed.

The incident was reported at 10:18 p.m
