Peterson--Mayor

Winona's mayor-elect, Mark Peterson admits he is facing a lot of challenges ahead when he takes office in January but one of his highest priorities is his pledge to address the future of Levee Park.

Peterson told a Winona Radio audience he wants to see the park reconnect to the downtown area so the area will get more public use.  Peterson says he is not expecting a difficult transition into the mayor's office considering his 30 years as Executive Director of the Winona County Historical Society.  He also says he wants to work with the city council to determine the city's biggest needs and priorities.
Peterson said he is aware of a number of big projects that lie ahead and the possibility of the city seeking a half percent local sales tax increase may be one way to pay for them.
