The Winona Port Authority is being asked to turn down a request from a cement business to locate new quarters in the J-T Schain Industrial Park.
According to the Port's Thursday agenda, River City Ready Mix has requested use of the Gleason property to construct a ready mix concrete plant.
But in an earlier letter to the River City Ready Mix, city Director of Economic Development, Lucy McMartin, said the concrete plant would not be an appropriate use of the land.
McMartin said the intent of the Schain Industrial Park was originally designed for light manufacturing with wholesale and warehouse activities. The park also has covenants that restrict heavier use that would need to be amended.
McMartin has recommended that River City Ready Mix find another Winona location.
The Port Authority meets Thursday at 4:00 p.m. at City Hall.
The Port will also address a request from a Winona police officer who would like the use of a portion of Technology Park for the United States Police Canine Association Training. Winona would host 30 dogs and handlers plying for national certification.
