Prairie Island Flooding

The Prairie Island campground is experiencing some flooding problems with the Mississippi River on the rise because of recent heavy rains.

A spokesman told Winona Radio News the area of the campground for non-electric users is now flooded and some campers have had to be re-located.

The area where electricity is supplied to campers is about one-fourth flooded.

The river is expected to crest at 15 and 1/2 feet on Monday and was at 14.7 feet Friday.

The campground starts to take on water at 13 feet.

By the way, the campground is not taking any reservations for immediate camping. The spokesman said no sites will be available for at least two weeks.
