More than 3400 from across more than 40 states are in Winona Friday for the start of the Ragnar Relay Great River Run.
The event features a 200 mile long course that starts at Winona's Levee Park and winds its way through western Wisconsin and ends up in Minneapolis on Saturday. It's part of the Ragnar Relay Series presented by Nordic Track.
The runners in small groups, who take turns running shorter distances, will cross the river in Winona and head up Highway 35. Teams begin at different times throughout the day starting at 5:00 a.m. Motorists are being asked to watch out for the runners and their support groups as they proceed up the river through towns like Fountain City, Alma, Pepin, Stockholm and Maiden Rock.
After running throughout the night, the event finishes at the East River Flats in Minneapolis Saturday where a big celebration will be held.
Winona Radio had wrongly reported the race was starting on Saturday...it actually starts Friday.
