Saint Mary's Baseball Team Moves Towards MIAC Tournament Berth
The Saint Mary’s baseball team moved closer to a MIAC Tournament berth on Sunday afternoon when the Cardinals swept second place Bethel 3-1 and 6-4. The Cardinals got a great pitching performance from Ben Johnson in the first game when Johnson gave up one run and seven hits in five innings. Ben Dobesenski threw two scoreless innings of relief to get the save. Kevin Miley was 2 for 3 and drove in two of the three runs in the first game while Willie Doll also added two hits.
David Berry drove in two runs in the second game and Taylor Theleman had two hits. The Cardinals got four innings of scoreless relief from three different pitchers in the second game.
Saint Mary’s improves to 15-21 overall and 11-7 in the MIAC and the Cardinals have one more doubleheader left in the regular season. Saint Mary’s needs to win just one game at St. Olaf on Tuesday to clinch the fourth and final spot in the MIAC Tournament.
