The Waumandee Town Board has advised the Buffalo County zoning department that it "approved with modifications" a proposed plan for a sand mining project by family landowners.

The company includes Cheryl and Gerald Earney and Mississippi Connection Land & Timber, LLC, members Kevin Rich, Dennis Earney and Deborah and Steve Zischke.
An estimated 80 people came to a town board meeting last week, many of them opposed to the mining permit.
A permit application says Badger Bluff Sands intends to mine 500,000 tons of sand annually for 10 years on some 65 acres of land.
Operating plans include construction of a wash plant, conveyor and use of 10 semi-tractor-trailers. The permit asks for trucking 100 loads of sand daily when in operation.
The primary haul route described in the permit application would run two miles on Schoepps Valley Road to State Highway 88, then south four miles to State Highway 35, then north 20 miles to State Highway 25 to Wabasha......
