Sand Mining Guidelines

The Buffalo County Land Resources Department is drafting guidelines to help towns review proposed sand mining projects.  Towns now have advisory say in approving or denying applications for sand mining in their jurisdictions.

It's part of a new permitting process in Buffalo County for non-metallic mining, chiefly aimed at sand mining ventures in rural towns governed by county zoning.

While town boards are in charge of running their own meetings and review processes, a guide list furnished by land resources might be useful in addressing common issues and questions that arise.

Supervisors decided to have a guide list drafted for committee review before approving it.
