School Board-Education Summit

The Winona Area Public School Board Thursday discussed the possibility of holding an "Education Summit" with representatives of Winona State University, Saint Mary's University and Southeast Technical College.

Board Chair, Mohamed Elhindi, says it would be a great way to further the partnership's the district has already begun exploring.

The board's consensus was that current Superintendent, Scott Hannon, should be part of the summit.

Board member Jeanne Nelson supported the summit idea and thinks the local universities could play a key role in strengthening the school district as a whole.

Vice-chair, Ben Baratto, noted he would like to see the board come up with an agenda with specific goals to accomplish.

Hannon said he met with SE-Tech President Jim Johnson last week and discussed the possible education summit and will speak with WSU President Scott Olson next week. Hannon said he will bring back the feedback for discussion at the next board meeting.
