Republicans in the House Rules Committee all opposed a measure that calls for a new Senate office building even though the committee lowered the price tag from 90-million dollars to 77-million dollars.
House Republican Leader Kurt Daudt said the reduction was achieved by removing a proposed parking ramp from the plan...but the building is still not needed.
All Republicans on the committee opposed the measure, as did only one Democrat. The 77-million dollar proposal now heads to the Senate where their Rules Committee must act.
Opponents say the project is not needed, is a waste of taxpayers money, and was brought up in a very ham-handed manner in the early morning hours of the final day of the 2013 session. Lawmakers had little time to study the proposal at that time.
