Unemployment Report

The state of Minnesota saw its unemployment rate increase to 5.6% in January compared to 5.4% in December.  But according to the latest statistics from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development the state also added 12,100 jobs in January.

The department also released revised figures from the Federal government showing the state gained 16,700 jobs over the previous 21 months.  DEED Commissioner Katie Clark Sieban says the new figures show the state has recovered nearly 90% of the 160,000 jobs that were lost during the so-called Great Recession.

Sieben said, in a press release, the Minnesota labor market is staging a robust comeback with all eleven industrial sectors showing year-over-year growth rates for the first time since 2000.
