Unsession Bill

A bill that would eliminate the need for a special session of the legislature to approve disaster aid for local communities continues to move through the House of Representatives.

The bill is sponsored by Winona Representative Gene Pelowski who says the bill will establish a solid 6-million dollar account for use in disaster relief aid without legislative approval.

Pelowski says the bill still gives the Governor the option of calling a special session if he feels it is needed, but it will also save the state a lot of money by not requiring lawmakers to return to the capital for a one-day session.

Pelowski says the Governor is already committed to signing it into law.
