Winona Bridge Project

Preparations for the Winona bridge project are moving along smoothly with the start of work earmarked to begin in early July.

Minnesota Department of Transportation Project Manager Terry Ward told a Winona Radio audience the final environmental permit has been granted.

Ward said the first contract, worth just over $2,000,000, has been awarded for the purchase of 42-inch pilings for the river substructure, and a second contract for temporary access facilities to the river by the contractor is about to be awarded.

A third contract for construction of new bridge river piers and the north abutment will be let on July 15th.

Ward said preparations for a mid-July groundbreaking are also in the works.

Ward said one half of the right-of-way properties have been purchased so far with the goal of getting all of the properties by January First,  2015. Some of the properties are going through eminent domain and condemnation proceedings.
