(KWNO)-Winona County Sheriff Ron Ganrude is encouraging residents celebrating St. Patrick’s Day to plan for a sober ride.

In a press release, the sheriff said, “we want our community members to enjoy St. Patrick’s Day, but we also want to impress upon everyone the importance of safe driving.”

Officials encourage residents to designate a sober driver or utilize other forms of sober transportation.

They also encourage motorists to report suspected drunk drivers and to buckle up while traveling. There were 124 drunk driving-related traffic fatalities on Minnesota roads last year, according to preliminary figures from the state’s Department of Public Safety.
