Winona Health CEO: No COVID Hospitalizations Since May

WINONA, Minn. (KWNO)-The Delta variant, now the most dominant strain of COVID-19 in the U.S., is causing hospitalizations to rise in under-vaccinated areas across the country.

Winona Health President/CEO Rachelle Schultz told KWNO Monday, they haven’t had a COVID-19 hospitalization since May.

“However, I will say our hospital has been very busy,” Schultz said. “What we don’t want is people getting the virus and actually needing to be hospitalized at a time when the hospital is busy.”

Schultz said Winona Health is continuing to monitor the virus. She once again urged everyone who’s eligible to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

“If you haven’t had the vaccine, get the vaccine. It makes a big difference I think for people’s ability to withstand the virus,” said Schultz.

Winona Health is offering the COVID-19 vaccine on a walk-in basis throughout its Mankato Avenue facility. Minnesota Health Commissioner Jan Malcolm told reporters Monday 99.5% of fully vaccinated Minnesotans have not contracted the virus as of July 15.
