Winona High Girls Beat Cotter in Section Playoffs, Winona High Boys Move On

The Winona High girls’ knocked off Cotter Tuesday 3-1 in the first round of the Section 1A soccer playoffs. Emily Bartz scored a pair of goals for the Winhawks and Katelyn Bruels had nine saves. Cotter's lone goal came from Paige Gernes who leaves Cotter as their all-time goals leader. The Winhawks are 6-9-2 overall and they move on to play Byron on the road on Thursday. Cotter finishes the season 4-9-1.
The Winona High boys shut out Faribault 3-0 in their first round round game. Dante DeGrazia, Emmet Hedin and Ryan Magana all scored for Winona High. The Winhawks are 10-4-2 and they host Albert Lea on Thursday.
The Cotter boys lost to second seed Austin 5-0. The Ramblers won just once this season finishing with a 1-12-2 record.
