The Winona State men’s basketball team completed its recruiting class with a pair of commitments, adding a local prep standout and a junior college transfer. Zach Melbostad of La Crescent and Cuesta Junior College post player Mohammed Ali Ben Ammar will join the Warriors for the 2014-15 campaign.
Melbostad set La Crescent High School records for career points and rebounds while averaging 21.4 points, 8.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game as a senior. He finished his career with 1,516 point and 794 rebounds while earning all-conference honors three times.
Ben Ammar helped lead Cuesta to a Western State Conference championship last season, posting a 21-10 overall record and earning a berth in the regional postseason tournament. A veteran of international competition, Ben Amarr played for his native Tunisia in the 19 and under World Championships while leading his country to a second-place finish in the African 18 and under Championships.
Melbostad and Ben Ammar give Winona State an incoming recruiting class of five, joining Nick Shanks, Charlie Koontz and University of Nebraska transfer Tim Wagner who signed with the team earlier this month.
