The Winona State football team won a defensive battle Saturday night beating 23rd ranked Sioux Falls 10-9 at Verizon Wireless Stadium. The Warrior defense held the Cougars to 308 total yards while forcing three turnovers. Winona State’s offense was able to move the ball gaining 380 yards but they turned it four times. Rayon Simmons ran for 191 yards on 30 carries, the fourth straight game he’s run for at least 175 yards. Simmons is also the first player to run for over 100 yards against Sioux Falls in the last 20 games. Simmons is now just 93 yards away from breaking the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference career rushing record.
Winona State improves to 5-1 and they have now beaten a ranked opponent four straight years. The Warriors will play on the road at 4-2 Wayne State next week.
