4/2/07 – 4/4/7-A senior at Winona Senior High job shadowed the afternoon announcer on KWNO.
12/12/06-Two Winona State University students shadowed KHME and KAGE-FM announcers . They were in a beginning broadcasting program.
4/13/07-Two La Crosse State University students visited with operations manager to learn about profiles of stations for their broadcasting class.
3/22/07-KWNO morning announcer spoke to Winona State University interviewing class and was interviewed regarding his news background and experience.
9/27/07-KWNO morning announcer spoke to Winona State University broadcasting class.
1/22/07-4/26/07- Student from St. Mary’s University did an internship for class credit to learn about a radio station operation, with emphasis on event planning.

3/23/06-A senior at Winona Senior High job shadowed the news director beginning at 6 a.m. and followed him throughout the day. The student had previously met the news director and had an idea of what the news director's work was about. The student is considering a career doing this sort of work.
3/20/06 to 3/23/06-Two eighth-grade students from Bluffview Montessori school job shadowed various SEU announcers and other employees, dividing their time among the stations in the SEU. They were interested in careers related to on-air work.
4/18/06-Two Winona Senior High students job shadowed the SEU's KG-95.3 morning announcer from 6 a.m. to noon.

May and June 2005-Two afternoon announcers mentored a Winona Senior High School student about a career in radio. The student spent eight hours over a two-week period observing the announcers and gaining hands-on experience as an announcer
10/20/05 and 10/22/05-A Winona Senior High School student job shadowed the SEU's sports director. The student observed the sports director gather and read reports for the morning sports reports. The sudent also learned how to prepare to broadcast sporting events and observed the sports director invterviewing coaches.
10/22/05-A Winona Senior High School student observed the sports director and play-by-play announcers broadcast the Winona State football game. The student learned how to set up the necessary equipment and listened to the broadcast with the announcers. The student also had the opportunity to speak over the air with the announcers during the game.
11/28/05 and 11/29/05-A Winona Senior High School communications class toured the SEU's facilities, talked to announcers about career options, and discussed what was involved with announcer jobs.

Outreach Activities 12/1/03 - 11/30/04 1. On-Air ongoing recruitment announcement 2. Website announcement 3. Feb. 11 and 12, 2004 Steve Wiltgen’s Winona Senior High class toured the studios and visited with Aaron Taylor, KG-95.3 morning announcer. He toldthem what it’s like to be an announcer and how he got there. 4. March 22 Les Guderian, sales manager, spoke to the marketing class at Western Wisconsin Technical College in La Crosse regarding radio advertising and marketing, What it’s like to be in radio and what opportunities exist in the radio field. 5. A Winona Senior High School student worked with announcer for four days. He had previously done a job shadow program. This was to assist him in selecting an appropriate college and course of study. He was working with a counselor in a special program. 6. Winona Senior High student observed and interacted with announcers second semester for course credit. Student plans to attend broadcast school. 7. Summer – a college student worked May through August an internship on the air for which he was granted class credit. He worked shifts on KAGE-AM and KHME-FM at various day parts. His work included interviewing, reading news, show host and voice tracking. 8. Sponsored job fair at Winona Mall July 14 at Winona Mall at which information and personnel were available.
Outreach Activities to 12/1/03 1. On-Air ongoing recruitment announcement 2. Website announcement 3. Tip Jaworski, Winona Radio production director, spoke to the Advertising Club atWSU. About 30 students attended. He spoke about how a radio station works in General and particularly how promotions work. Tip is a graduate of WSU. 4. Dave Dicke spoke to the Introduction to Media class at SMU. Dave works on the airand is program director of KHME and he is also in sales. He gave an overview of howa radio station works and how music is selected. Class professor is Dean Beckman, former Winona Radio employee. 5. Pat and Jerry Papenfuss spoke to a WSU student broadcasting organization. Focus ofthe presentation was planning your career in broadcasting. Students represented a varied group who were interested in writing copy foradvertising to on-air and news. Focus was to define what you consider career success and then taking steps to achieve it. 6. Winona Senior High junior served career mentorship 4/22 5/22. Each afternoon,Monday through Friday student spent time with K.C. O'Dea in the KG-95.3 studio.Student had a chance to see what an announcer and news person's job is like on aDaily basis. Toward the end of this time student was allowed to talk on the air.Student is interested in pursuing a career in broadcasting and did this project withthe expectation that it would help student decide if it is a good fit. 7. 11/24 & 26 Announcers spoke to Steve Wiltgen's Winona Senior High Schoolcommunications classes. The classes spent an hour in the studios and news room.Announcers described and demonstrated the work they do. Bob Sebo, Darryl Smelserand Aaron Taylor participated. They also described how they became announcers and news persons.
