Paul Van Beek Reporting The Rushford-Peterson boys’ basketball team closed out the Class 1A state tournament with a dominating performance in the third place game Saturday beating Moutain Lake/Butterfield-Odin 75-48. The Trojans put together an 18-0 run in the first half and led 43-17 at the halftime break.
One game after hitting just three three-pointers against Southwest Minnesota Christian in the semifinals, Rushford-Peterson exploded offensively hitting 15 of 32 three-pointers. Senior Trent Vix finished his career in style putting on a shooting display for the ages. Vix was on fire from behind the arc hitting nine long range bombs including six in the second half. Vix led all scorers with 27 points while senior teammate Nick Thompson finished with 19 points and five three-pointers. Jorli Hauge was also in double digits for R-P with 15 points with 13 of them coming in the first half.
Rushford-Peterson’s defense was very disruptive forcing Mountain Lake/Buttfield-Odin into 24 turnovers. Rushford-Peterson finishes the season 26-6 and they lose three senior starters in Vix, Thompson and Nate Kingsley. Vix and Thompson were both named to the Class 1A All-Tournament team. Thompson averaged 24.3 points during the three games while Vix scored 18 per game.
