Winona County and City law enforcement officers will become part of the state and nation's largest seat belt enforcement effort starting Monday.
The "Click it or Ticket" operation will take place from May 21st through June 7th when some 400 law enforcement officers in Minnesota partner with over 10,000 agencies nationwide to educate drivers and passengers about the importance of seat belt use.
Officers in Winona County will work overtime hours to help enforce the state's primary seat belt law which requires not only drivers, but passengers, including those in the back seat, to be buckled up or seated in the correct child restraint.
Winona Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams says those who don't buckle up face a range of negative consequences, ranging from a ticket to being ejected from the vehicle.
