Two Winona State hammer throwers who have pushed each other all season finished in fourth and fifth place Thursday on the first day of the NCAA Division II outdoor track and field championships in Pueblo, Colorado.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports Winona High School graduate Michelle Potter placed fourth with a throw of 188 feet, 3 inches, third-longest in school history, and Jenny Schuler was right behind her with a throw of 187 feet, 9 inches, fourth-best in school history.
Potter also holds the school record at 198 feet, 8 inches, and Schuler holds the record for second best. It was the senior Potter's final collegiate competition. She will now prepare for a possible appearance in the Olympic trials on June 21st.
