Fatal Truck Crash
One person is dead following a crash involving a car and a semitrailer on U.S. 61 in Winona County Friday afternoon.
The Post-Bulletin of Rochester reports the semi rolled and caught fire at about 12:20 p.m. Firefighters from Winona, Nodine, Ridgeway, Dakota and Pickwick fought the blaze.
A Minnesota State Patrol report says that the driver was alone in the car.
The truck driver was reported to be in good condition, and was evaluated at the scene by emergency responders.
According to Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand, the driver of the car was in the wrong lane when it collided with the semi.
The crash happened between Winona County Road 3 and Winona County Road 7, three miles north of the Dakota
a and 10 miles southeast of Winona. The semi was in the southbound lanes.
U.S. 61 is now open, with one lane traffic open for south bound traffic and both north bound lanes open. The other south bound lane is expected to be open later Friday evening.
