Truck Fatal: Driver ID

The Minnesota State Patrol says an 87-year-old Winona man was killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a car and a semitrailer on Highway 61 south of Winona Friday.

The patrol identified the victim as Roger Papenfuss, the driver of the car, who was alone in the vehicle.

The Patrol says the semi rolled after the impact and caught fire at about 12:20 p.m. in the southbound lane of Highway 61 two miles south of La Moille.

The truck was southbound and the car was northbound.

Firefighters from Winona, Nodine, Ridgeway, Dakota and Pickwick fought the blaze.

The Patrol said the truck driver, identified as 65-year-old Robert Siebenaler (SEE'-ben-all-ler) of Lewiston, was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester but had no apparent injury.

Winona County Sheriff Dave Brand said Siebenaler escaped the fire.

Traffic in both directions had to be re-routed to Interstate 90 for a time. The southbound lanes were closed for several hours.
