Gift of Cherry Trees

The public is invited to the planting of several cherry trees during a special ceremony that will take place in East Lake Park on Sunday, June 10th, at 3:00 p.m.

The event will help the city celebrate the Cherry Blossom Centennial.  It was in 1912 that over 3000 cherry trees were planted in Washington, DC as a gift from the government of Japan.  The local event will celebrate the ongoing friendship between Winona and its sister city of Misato, Japan.

Winona is one of just 36 cities across the United States that has been selected to receive another gift of cherry trees in honor of Japan's original gift 100 years ago.  The mayors of both Winona and Misato will be on hand and the public is also invited to attend.
