Firefighters Rescue

Two Winona firefighters have been given special recognition for their quick action in aiding the occupant of a home on fire and rescuing family pets.

Brothers Scott and Michael Stueve were watching television in their home when they smelled burning material. They went outside and discovered smoke coming from thebroof of a neighbor's residence.

The brothers alerted the only adult occupant, who was unaware of the fire, and Michael carried her infant child outside while the mother carried her two-year-old child.   Scott Stueve made several re-entries into the burning home and rescued three family dogs.

There were no injuries in the fire.  For their efforts the brothers were awarded certificates of appreciation by the fire department.  Ironically, as a fifth grader Scott Stueve was chosen fire chief of his class for his fire safety attitude and rode the Winona Ladder Truck during Steamboat Days.
