The Buffalo County Sheriff's Department says a 34-year-old Apple Valley woman managed to find her own way out of the Mississippi River backwaters on Monday as authorities mounted a search after she went missing.

Sheriff Mike Schmidknecht said his office was notified at 9:24 p.m. Monday that Rebecca Labs failed show up after kayaking in the Indian Slough located in the Township of Nelson.  Rescue personnel from the Nelson and Alma Fire Departments, along with Wabasha Search and Rescue, and the DNR began mounting a search.

Schmidknecht said Labs showed up at a residence along Highway 35 north of Alma several miles from where she started. Labs was cold and tired but did not suffer any injuries.  She had been missing for about two and a half hours.

Labs was taken back to the boat landing from where she started out where a friend was waiting.
