Saying they do not want to negatively impact services, the Winona County Board reached a consensus that the highway shops in Elba and Utica will not be consolidated into one building.
That means the board will look at remodeling both shops at a cost of about $500,000.
Hearing that consolidating the two operations at the Utica shop could cause a delay in snow plowing in the western county of up to 90 minutes, board member Marcia Ward called that unacceptable.
Commissioner Jim Pomeroy said there should be no delays for school buses or residents going to work because snow plows have farther to travel for their routes.
While no final decision was made, County staff was directed to focus on bringing back some options for the remodeling the two buildings.
