Student Breathalyzer Tests

Parents had their chance to speak out about the breathalyzer tests seniors at St. Charles High School were administered earlier this month.

The St. Charles Press says about 20 parents attended a school board meeting this week following the incident on June First where over 70 seniors were given the alcohol tests after arriving at school for a graduation rehearsal.

Instead of the rehearsal they will all administered breathalyzer tests after school officials suspected some of them had been consuming alcohol the night before.  Most of the students passed the test but some were referred to the Winona County Attorney's Office after they failed the test.

County Attorney Karin Sonneman has been reviewing the reports submitted by St. Charles police. So far no decisions on possible prosecutions have been released.  All of the students were allowed to participate in graduation exercises on June 3rd.
