One person is dead and another in critical condition after a head-on crash on U.S. 14 in Winona County Monday afternoon.
       
46 year old  Faustino Alvarez of Utica was pronounced dead at the scene after the car he was driving westbound on U.S. 14 crossed the center line and collided with an eastbound pickup.  The driver of the pickup, a 57 year old Winona man, was transported to Gunderson Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse with undisclosed injuries. His name has not been released yet.
       
The Minnesota State Patrol reports the accident happened at about 4:20 p.m. east of Lewiston.  The Winona County Sheriff's Office, the Lewiston Fire and Lewiston Ambulance assisted at the scene.
