The Team Vogel vs. Cancer weekend long event raising money for cancer research and families dealing with cancer in the Winona area is almost here.

Team Vogel is a group of people, connected in a fight against cancer, started by Joe and Rachel Vogel.

Rachel says she and Joe were overwhelmed with the love and support shown by Joe's friends, family, coworkers and community and wanted to give back.

Rachel says the goal is to make it a real community event to help others.

The fundraiser runs Saturday and Sunday and features a variety of things to participate in, including a 5K race and a 1 Mile Run/Walk at 8:00 a.m. Saturday at the JC Pavillion. There will also be a silent auction, co-ed kickball tournament and men and women's softball tournament.

Last year Team Vogel Versus Cancer raised $45,000 for 10 families. This year's goal is $50,000 and all money raised will be donated to the 10 families selected, as well as cancer-research programs at Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse and Gundersen Lutheran.
