Barge Hits Bridge
If you plan to take to the river this week for the Bassmaster's Fishing Tournament, watch for debris and broken timbers.
According to the La Crescent Police Department, a south-bound barge struck the side of the bridge located near La Crescent's Shore Acres around 7:00 a.m. Tuesday.
WXOW.com reports the collision caused a major portion of the wooden fencing to break loose.
Although an emergency crew is currently repairing the damage, loose timbers the crew were unable to recover are floating south.
The La Crescent Police Department said the accident was caused by the barge's inability to be properly steered due to the high water levels and fast current.
The Bassmaster tournament in La Crosse got started bright and early Thursday morning. The national tournament features 98 of the best anglers the nation has to offer competing to catch the biggest and best they can in the Mississippi River.
