Winona Mayor Jerry Miller says it's time the City of Winona takes matters into its own hands regarding the future of Winona's river crossing. The city and the Chamber of Commerce are turning to the federal transportation department calling for a new Mississippi River bridge.
Miller says that city officals spoke with Senator Amy Klobuchar earlier this month and he believes that she is on board. Meetings are planned with Representative Tim Walz next week and soon with Senator Al Franken. The Minnesota Department of Transportation has been studying the possibility of renovating the existing river crossing for a year now.
Miller says that is not adequate to ensure the smooth flow of traffic to and from western Wisconsin that Winona's economy needs to thrive.
