Winona's commercial harbor saw stepped activity in the month of May.
                 
The latest report from Artco Fleeting indicates 164 barges were handled in the harbor in May compared to 222 barges that were handled in May of last year.

Through May the harbor saw 285 barges while the first five  months of 2011 there were 391 barges handled by Artco Fleeting.

Barges are used to haul commodities in and out of the harbor. the commodities include grain, fertilizer, coal, and lately, frack sand.
