Habitat for Humanity-Winona Fillmore County, along with over a dozen volunteers from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines, began the construction of a new habitat home Monday.

The three-bedroom home at 190 Edward Street in Winona will be purchased by Khoua  & Lee Yang and their two children.
   
Federal Home President and CEO, Dick Swanson, says with local partners,  Winona National Bank and Merchants Bank, Winona seemed like a great fit for the first of their 5-state, 5-families in 5-years plan.

Nancy Iglesias with the local chaper of Habitat, says building affordable homes is a real community effort.

A short press conference and lunch was held Monday morning and Habitat was presented with a check for $75,000 to assist in building the Yang home.
