Minnesota state lawmakers are reacting to the Supreme Court's decision Thursday to uphold the Affordable Care Act.
Democratic State Representative Erin Murphy says Minnesota can now maintain its status as a leader in healthcare.
But Republican Senate Majority Leader Dave Senjem of Rochester says the law basically only addresses access to healthcare and ignores the issues of cost and quality. Senjem says the state needs to address many issues to look at controlling future costs.
Murphy says the decision maintains a number of provisions helping low-income Minnesotans. Senjem also said the decision clarifys one thing...the Affordable Care Act is a tax....while the President and Congress strongly stated that it was not a tax on Americans.
