Dog In Truck

A 36-year-old Rochester man is facing criminal charges after a small dog left inside a nearly closed pickup truck in downtown Winona on Sunday afternoon when the temperature was in the 90's.

Police Chief Paul Bostrack said officers responded to the Cine Four Theaters parking lot by a citizen who discovered the dog inside and the truck's windows were down only about one-half an inch.  The dog was rescued and taken to the Winona County Humane Society when the truck's owner could not be located.

The dog was not harmed.  The owner was identified as Todd Harrington of Rochester.  The incident was reported at 2:42 p.m.

Police continue to advise citizens to not leave any pets inside vehicle for extended periods of time during this latest heat wave with temperatures expected to remain in the 90s all week and the heat index heading over 100.
