The Winona County Board voted unanimously 5 - 0 to approve a project to remodel the county's highway shops at Utica and Elba. The board authorized the project to proceed with cost estimates that could go as high as $600,000.
Commissioner Jim Pomeroy said the Utica shop is the worst of the two and will get its life extended. Money for the projects will come from the county's capital improvement funds. An option to combine the two shops at one location was turned down by the board earlier. The work will be undertaken next year.
