The Buffalo County Zoning Board of Adjustment has approved a permit for a sixth sand mining operation in the county.
The permit was for the R & J Rolling Acres farm located near Gilmanton and Highway 88, but the permit also includes 43 conditions for the operation. The vote was 3-nothing in favor of the permit, which the board had rejected earlier.
The permit will also allow the operation to mine, wash, and haul frack sand but the operation will be restricted to hauling 105 truck loads per work day. Hauling will also be banned between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m. Monday-through Friday and on weekends and major holidays. The sand trucks must be covered with tarps.
Some of the sand will trucked into Winona and some may also be taken to a proposed sand drying plant and rail loading site in the Town of Milton. While six permits for sand mining have been granted in Buffalo County none of the operations have begun yet.
