Planning Commission-Frac Sand



The Winona City Planning Commission met Monday and continued their study on the sand moratorium and frac sand issues.
           
The commissioners heard from staff on current state and city codes concerning air quality and ways of taking samples, better detection methods and enforcement options.
           
Tony Wasinger, general manager with Kohner Materials, spoke for industry and said current air quality guidelines are working.

Marie Kovecsi, who spoke on behalf of Winona Area Citizens Concerned about Sand Mining, and said the group want's air qualtiy sampling to take place right away.

The planning commission has been studing frac sand issues for several months and will bring recommendations to the City Council before the year long frac sand moratorium expires.
