Winona High School Athletic Director Resigns

Winona High School is looking for a new athletic director for the second in two years. Current athletic director Clark Jones has handed in his resignation and his last day on the job is July 31st. Jones took over for Mark Winter as athletic director in 2011 after Winter spent 11 years as AD. Jones was living in Rochester and commuting every day to Winona and Winona Area Public Schools Superintendent Scott Hannon says Jones felt he couldn’t devote enough time to both his family and his work with the long commute.

Fall practices begin August 13th and the first athletic event for Winona High is on August 17th. Hannon says a lot of the work for the fall activities has already been done, but they may need to tie up a few lose ends when they hire a new AD. Winter has volunteered to help out with things while a new athletic director is hired. Hannon says they will be taking applications until July 21st and he hopes to have a new athletic director as soon as possible after that. Hannon says when they begin their search for the AD, they’ll be looking for someone committed to and hiring someone that lives in the Winona area, or is willing to move to Winona, will be a factor in their decision.
