Winona Police are investigating a report filed by the Quality Inn Hotel on Mankato Avenue where suspected vandalism caused an estimated 115-thousand dollars in damages.
Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams said a maintenance person reported Saturday morning about 10:30 a.m. that a heavy rainstorm during the early morning hours resulted in a large amount of water leaking into the main lobby through the ceiling.
It was discovered that someone peeled back a large waterproof memberane on the roof above the lobby causing the leak. Two roof pumps were also unplugged.
Lobby repairs and renovation was estimated to cost 50-thousand dollars. A phone system estimated at 30-thousand dollars and a computer system estimated at 20-thousand dollars were also damaged.
Repairs to the roof were estimated at 15-thousand dollars.
Williams said a ladder was found leaning against the building and is believed to have been used to gain access to the roof.....
