The Houston County Board of Commissioners will host a public meeting on Wednesday (July 18th) to further discuss a proposed sand mining operation along Highway 16 south of Rushford near the Houston-Fillmore County line.
                
Minnesota Sand wants to remove about two million cubic yards of sand from the existing operation which has been supplying sand for road projects.

The operation currently has a permit granted in 1992 and renewed every five years, but the latest operation may violate the county's one-year moratorium on frac sand mining.

Wednesday's meeting will start at 6:00 p.m. at the Houston County Justice Center in Caledonia.....
