Houston County will return 1.5 million dollars in unused flood money to the State of Minnesota.
The Caledonia Argus reports Houston County Commissioners voted unanimously to return the unused money and they hope it will, instead, go to help flood victims in the Duluth area.
The paper says Houston County originally received 3-million dollars to help the county deal with damage caused by the flood of August 2007 but never used all of it and now the state wants it back.
Some of the unused funds had been earmarked for the reconstruction of a portion of Houston County Highway 22 but that project never got off the ground.
Officials said the county can keep the interest the unused funds earned.....
