A public hearing on the proposal to develop a railroad loading station and a sand washing plant on property located near Cochrane-Fountain City School will be held on Tuesday in Alma. The public hearing being hosted by the Buffalo County Zoning Board of Adjustment will be held at Alma High School at 5:30 p.m.
The hearing follows an open house in Waumandee held Thursday by Glacier Sands of Menomonie, the project developer. where about one hundred people attended. The board of adjustment in May delayed action on the Glacier Sands permit request and now wants to hear from the public on the issue.
Thus far, Buffalo County has has approved conditional use permits for six sand mining operations prior to a seven-month moratorium being enacted by the Buffalo County Board of Supervisors.
