Morrie Miller Youth Football League Registrations Open at the End of the Month
Paul Van Beek Reporting
The Morrie Miller Youth Football League will begin its 15th year in August and registration will be at the end of July. The league is open to incoming fourth, fifth and sixth graders. When the program started in 1998 there were 72 participants and last year there was over 200. Last year Winona had five teams while Lewiston-Altura fielded two teams and there were also squads from Rushford-Peterson, Houston and Spring Grove.
The first practice will be held Monday August 6th and league coordinator Steve Kosidowski says teams will practice three times a week and then play a game on Saturday or Monday. Teams typically play seven or eight games and the top four teams after the regular season make the playoffs. Last year the two Lewiston-Altura teams played in the championship game. The cost is $80 to participate and there is financial assistance available for those that need it. Registration for incoming sixth graders is Monday July 30th from 6-7 pm in the Roger Bacon Hall in the basement at the Cotter campus. July 31st incoming fifth graders register and incoming fourth graders can sign up on August 1st both from 6-7 pm. For more information call Steve Kosidowski at 459-2005 or go to the Morrie Miller website at morriemiller.com.
