New WSU Athletic Director Settling In
Paul Van Beek Reporting
New Winona State athletic director Eric Schoh is starting to get settled in his new position at Winona State. Schoh came to Winona State from Wayne State where he had been the athletic director since 2004. Schoh’s first day on the job was June 11th and one of the first big things he had to do was hire three new staff members. Now that he has his staff hired, he says the main things they have been working on is their ticket packages, their corporate sponsorship program and just getting things ready for fall sports season which is just a month away. Schoh has thought about his goals as AD and in the short term it’s just get ready for the fall sports season but long term he wants to set up an athletic advisory board.
The adjustment period has gone pretty smoothly for Schoh since getting to Winona State. Since Wayne State is also a NSIC school, he hasn’t really had to make much of an adjustment at all as far as dealing with the conference. He has had to learn a little about the state procedures in working at a state school in Minnesota. Wayne State is a state school and he’s worked at other state schools, so it just learning the differences between how the state works with schools in Minnesota compared to other states.
The big reason that Schoh decided to apply for the job at Winona State was because he grew up in La Crescent and still has family there. Even though he was coming back to the area where he grew up, Schoh says it felt a little weird going from Wayne State to Winona State because they are both in the NSIC. To listen to an interview with Schoh, tune in to AM 1230 KWNO Saturday morning at 8:00 a.m.
