Mine Permit

Winona County has received its first application for a sand mining operation and expects to hold a public hearing on the proposal in mid-August.

Winona County Planning and Environmental Services Director Jason Gilman says the proposed mine is in Saratoga Township and is a 20-acre site.

Gilman said the county received of the application from David Nisbit last Friday and has 10 days after that to review it.

Gilman says the first public hearing would be held on August 16th, if the application meets the county's standards. After that, a recommendation would go to the County Board which would hold a second public hearing.

Gilman says the application proposes to mine four acres of the 20-acre site at one time, relcaiming each four acres before starting another four acres.

Nisbit's first application for the site was tabled by last sSeptember and became moot after by the moratorium which ended on May First.
